No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have rebuilt my ductwork in an attempt to make this darn thing function. I can see the steam from the cooktop floating up to the lights and then turning out into the room because the "powerfull 600 cfm fan" cannot even pull steam through the vent after it reaches the vicinity on its own. I have a $15 plastic window fan that is significantly more useful.
