This compactor is difficult to operate. You have to be quite forceful to get it to open and really have to follow through to slam it shut. I called customer service to have unit checked out to see if it is defective or just that difficult to operate. If it turns out to be just difficult to operate, I regret the money spent on it.

Great looking compactor. Goes well with rest of the stainless appliances. I like that the controls are on the inside so my 3 year old grandson cant play with it!

I remodeled my kitchen in 2013. I purchased GE Monogram throughout. As of this review, every single appliance has failed and been replaced! My first impression of this new compactor was the weight. Far heavier than the Monogram it replaced. The filter is wonderful and the compaction is superior over the GE. I could not be more pleased with this purchase. Also, the 2-year warranty offered by Jenn-Air gives piece of mind too.
