This is NOT a sweepstakes entry - I actually spent money buying 2 of them and lived with them - one after another and had the same exact problem. Both units had a complete failure of the sealed system. 2 for 2. How lucky am I. Instead of repairing the first unit Kitchen Aid offered me a discount on a new unit. They felt a repair of this magnitude was extreme, and I felt the offer price for a new unit was reasonable, as I had the prior unit a few years and it was outside of the full warranty period. The second unit had another complete failure of the sealed system after about 2 years, still under full warranty, but this time they wanted to replace all the parts by a local service provider. Quality isn't what it was in the past. At this price point one would expect a reliable product. I see no value in paying more and getting less, just to have a brand name.

This new ice machine replaced my KitchenAid I've had for 9 years. The old one didn't have a water filter. This one has an "Ice2" filter that twists into the front control panel. Logically, you'd think if a filter is required for the machine to work properly, KitchenAid would have installed it at the factory during assembly. Think again. For the price we paid, KitchenAid should have sold a complete product that worked straight out of the box. That was not the case. I was not happy getting a new machine and then discovering all the parts to make it function properly are not included. You have been warned.
